Early life

Virat Kohli was born on 5th November 1988 in Delhi. His father Prem Kohli, worked as a criminal lawyer. His mother Saroj Kohli is a housewife. He has an older brother Vikas & an older sister Bhavna.

International career

In August 2008 Virat was included in the Indian ODI squad for the tour of Sri Lanka & the Champions

At the age of 19, in the 1st ODI of the tour and was dismissed for 12. He made his 1st ODI half century (54).

In the 4th match which helped India win the series. He had scores of 37, 25 & 31 in the other 3 matches. India won the series 3–2 against Sri Lanka in Sri Lanka.

in July 2009 Kohli was selected in the four-team Players Tournament. He opened the innings in that tournament and finished as the leading run-getter (398 runs) from 7 matches at an average of 66.33.

2011 Cricket World Cup

In January 2011 Virat Kohli was the leading run-getter in the 5 match ODI series of the South African tour. He made 193 runs at an average of 48.25 including Two 50s.

In every match he scored an unbeaten 100, his fifth ODI century, in the 1st match against Bangladesh. He became the 1st Indian batsman to score a century on World Cup debut.

In the next 4 group matches he had low scores of 8, 34, 12 & 1 against England, Ireland, Netherlands & South Africa respectively.

After that he scored only 24 and 9 in the quarter-final against Australia. And in the semi-final match against Pakistan respectively.

In the final match of the World Cup against Sri Lanka at Mumbai he scored only 35. At last India won the match by 6 wickets & lift the World Cup for the 1st time since 1983.

2013 ICC Champions Trophy

In June 2013, in the ICC Champions Trophy in England which India won. Kohli scored a match-winning 144 vs Sri Lanka in a warm-up match.

He scored 34, 22 & 22 not out in India’s group matches against South Africa, West Indies & Pakistan respectively.

In the semi-final match against Sri Lanka at Cardiff, Virat struck 58 not out in an 8th wicket win for India. By this India reach 129/7 in 20 overs.

India went on to secure a 5 runs win & their 2nd consecutive ICC ODI tournament victory.

2014 ICC World Twenty20

In the opening match of the tournament against Pakistan, Kohli scored 36 not out to guide India to a seven-wicket win. He made 54 runs off 41 balls in the next match against West Indies. And 57 runs from 50 balls against Bangladesh.

In the semi-final match he made 72 runs in 44 balls against the target of 173. He won the “man of the match”. India posted 130/4 in the final vs. Sri Lanka, in which Kohli scored 77 from just 58 deliveries, but lost the match by 6 wickets.

Kohli had made a total of 319 runs in the tournament a record for most runs in a single World T20 tournament. And he won the Man of the Tournament award.

2015 Cricket World Cup

In the 1st match of the World Cup against Pakistan Kohli hit 107 in 126 balls, to help India set a total of 300 & win the match by 76 runs.

He was dismissed for 46 in India’s 2nd match against South Africa. India went on to post 307 in 50 overs & register a 130 runs victory in the match.

India batted 2nd in their remaining matches in which Kohli scored 33*, 33, 44* & 38 against UAE, West Indies, Ireland and Zimbabwe respectively.

In 109-run victory in the quarter-final against Bangladesh, he was dismissed by Rubel Hossain. In the semi-final match by Australia, where Kohli was dismissed for 1 off 13 balls.

2017 ICC Champions Trophy

 Virat Kohli became captain in an ICC tournament for the 1st time in the 2017 ICC Champions Trophy. In the semi-final match vs. Bangladesh, Kohli scored 96*.  And becoming the fastest batsman to reach 8,000 runs in ODIs in 175 innings.

But lost against Pakistan Cricket team by 180 runs. As Kohli and his team showed good game. In the 3rd over of Indian innings, Kohli was dropped in the slips for just 5 runs.
